Fox Cities New Year’s Resolution Guide


With 2019 now upon us, it brings with a new year to set new goals and resolutions. For many, this includes living a healthier lifestyle by working out and maintaining a clean diet. The Fox Cities offer over 100 miles of trails and numerous parks and nature centers for activities such as running, walking, biking, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing. We hope this guide helps you meet your 2019 goals!

Fitness

High Cliff State Park is the perfect place for those who enjoy a scenic route during their workout. The park is located in Sherwood and is known for their bluffs and stunning views of Lake Winnebago! With 16 miles of unpaved trails, except some portions in between trails or on roadways, this park provides both beginner and expert level trails. Visitors are required to pay to enter the park and are advised to use caution when hiking next to bluffs.

  • 1000 Islands Environmental Center, located in Kaukauna, is another great location for scenic trails. This site has 7.2 miles of trails, with a 1-mile trail along the Fox River. It also has 2000 feet of a barrier free boardwalk! Visitors can take advantage of kayaking and canoeing in the lower Fox River or use their cross-country ski trails. 1000 Islands is great for place for the whole family to visit!


  • Gordon Bubolz Nature Preserve has over 8.5 miles of unpaved paths with spectacular views of ponds and wooded areas. Wildlife is another bonus to see while staying active at this nature preserve.  Many visitors come for popular activities like snowshoeing and cross-country skiing during the winter months. The nature preserve has multi-level trails and is located in Appleton.


Food

Breakfast: Copper Rock Coffee has many healthy meal options to help kick-start your day! Copper Rock is a lively café located in Appleton that is very popular with locals. For breakfast, we recommend the Veggie Egg Sandwich on a whole wheat wrap or Breadsmith Power Bread!

Lunch: Stone Arch Brewpub is your source for local and sustainable foods. This Appleton-based restaurant offers a variety of delicious meals including gluten-free options. We suggest their Organic Biergarten Salad!

Dinner: Pullman’s Restaurant specializes in tasteful salads, seafood and steaks. Found alongside the Fox River in Appleton, Pullmans features a variety of wholesome meal options. We recommend the Blackened Ahi Tuna!
