This evening photograph provided a glimmer of hope and beauty amid an unprecedented year, showcasing the vibrancy of the downtown and spirit of the season.
#2: Sturgeon spearing on Lake Winnebago is a winter sport tradition like no other. The lake has the largest self-sustaining lake sturgeon population in the world, and every second Saturday in February, fishermen flock to it to stake out their chance to spear one of these giant, prehistoric fish, as shown being held by a group of friends and fishermen in this photo. #1: The most engaging Instagram post of 2020 was this late November winter shot in downtown Appleton featuring the Avenue of Angels and a stretch of storefronts. In this unprecedented year, the Fox Cities CVB pivoted much of our messaging and efforts to continue to promote and support small and local businesses and attractions, which make our destination and region what it is. This shot combines the glimmer and spirit of the season and the local businesses at the heart of our communities.
