Laugh the Night Away at the Skyline Comedy Club!
A friend of mine recently won free tickets to a 10:15pm show at the Skyline Comedy Cafe.
I hadn’t been there in almost a year, so when she asked me to come along I jumped at the chance to visit one of my favorite area attractions! They have the perfect atmosphere for groups; even if you don’t know others in your party, you’ll be fast friends reminiscing about the show together afterward.
Our group met for a drink at the Stone Cellar Brewpub on the lower level of the building to enjoy a cocktail or two before the show. The Skyline Comedy Café also offers some of the Stone Cellar’s Brews. The Stone Cellar has two different bars to choose from; The Main Bar and the Tap Room. If you visit during warmer weather be sure to take advantage of their Beer Garden! In the past we’ve made time to arrive early for dinner as well. I love everything from their chicken bacon ranch pizza to elk pastrami wrap.
At 9:45pm, we rode the elevator up to the top floor to check in. Complimentary tickets cover admission, but there is still a 2 drink minimum which guests can select from a large variety of soda, beer, wine, mixed and blended drinks. A 15% gratuity is added to groups of 6 or more.
The show includes three different sets, a host, featured act and the headliner. Although they all give great stand up performances, the headliner is the advertised main event and the host’s responsibility is to keep the show moving by introducing the comedians and reminding patrons to purchase snacks and to tip their wait staff, which is very attentive. Our headliner was Larry Reeb, also known as ‘Uncle Lar’, a regular on the Bob & Tom Show. He has been voted Chicago Comedian of the Year, and has made numerous television and radio appearances. Uncle Lar’s claim to fame is giving “tips” and handling hecklers. Our group thought he was hilarious and was exactly what I would expect from an R rated comedy show.
I always like to stop and chat or take pictures with the comedians on the way out, and some have DVD’s and other promotional items for sale. If you want a chance to win tickets like my friend did or receive free admission the week of your birthday, be sure to fill out a comment card from the table and drop it in the champagne bucket by the exit! You can also visit their website and enter for a chance to win.
The Skyline Comedy Café is located on the 3rd floor of the historic “Between the Locks” building at 1004 S. Olde Oneida Street in Appleton. Visit their website for directions, to see the schedule and ratings, or to make reservations. For groups and promotions, call the box office at (920) 734-5654 Noon – 8pm Mon-Thurs and Noon – 11pm Fri & Sat. Want to hear a preview of the week’s headliner? Tune in at 8-9am to 101.1 WIXX on Thursdays, 105.7 WAPL on Fridays or stream the morning shows live from your computer.
