Overview
YELCS (Youth Entry Level Construction Skills) is a no-cost, state-certified pre-apprenticeship program designed for high school students interested in careers in the construction trades. The program provides hands-on training, industry exposure, and essential workplace skills to help students explore and prepare for high-demand career pathways.
Participants gain experience in areas such as construction basics, tool identification, safety (including OSHA training), blueprint reading, and trades math. Students also earn industry-recognized certifications and have the opportunity to connect directly with union contractors, apprenticeship programs, and local employers.
YELCS is designed to build confidence, develop job readiness skills, and create a direct pathway into registered apprenticeships, employment, or continued education in the skilled trades. The program is industry-led, connects students to real career opportunities, and supports those who may be underserved or exploring alternative career options after graduation.
Successful participants leave with a strong foundation, valuable certifications, and a clear next step into the construction workforce.
